WRD Content Strategy and Style Guide

Overview

As part of my work as a graduate assistant for DePaul University’s Writing, Rhetoric and Discourse (WRD) department I was asked to create a style guide for the department in order to ensure consistency across our social media platforms and blog posts as well as to have a central location where our content strategy documents, which we had drafted the year prior, could be found and easily shared with future assistants and faculty. As an addition to this document, I created a summarized version with InDesign that could be printed and kept in hand in the graduate assistant office.

Tasks

  • Conducted a content audit of WRD’s blog with a fellow graduate assistant in order to gain an understanding of what styles we have been using for our posts, what hashtags we used, as well as design elements
  • Synthesized the content audit into a table that contained the different styles used to present to our supervisor, so we could discuss what we wanted to keep or alter moving forward
  • Based off the content audit, created a draft of the style guide including sections for each blog post type and all of WRD’s social media platforms to present
  • Used google docs to create a collaborative, editable document shared with our department
  • Continuously update the style guide in google in conjunction with the other graduate assistants
